Stephanie Z. Narvarte
Stephanie learned to speak Spanish at the age of four while living in Veracruz, Mexico. She received her B.A. in Latin American Studies from UT Austin, and her M.A. in Education from Hunter College in New York, NY. During her undergraduate years, she studied abroad at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Madrid, Spain, where she focused on Spanish Literature. In 1998, she traveled to Montevideo, Uruguay where she served as a translator for Donna Hrinak, a former U.S. Ambassador to Bolivia, at a conference that discussed human rights issues for Latin American women and children.
Throughout her college years, Stephanie worked as a private Spanish tutor. After seven years working in the nonprofit Public Relations world in Washington, DC and New York, NY, she decided it was time to revive her passion, which is working with children.
During her time in New York, Stephanie earned her student teaching hours in public schools in Brooklyn and in East Harlem, where her Spanish skills were put to use.
Due to her own experience learning a second language at an early age, Stephanie feels lucky and honored to be a part of the Mariposas team and is excited to “return the gift” of teaching Spanish to young children.
Stephanie, along with her husband Peter, is constantly trying to figure out ways to make her two young children love the Spanish language! Aside from teaching Spanish, she also loves yoga, swimming, dancing, Thai food and traveling.
